The History of the Bar-K Ranch

Bar-K Ranch residents often are asked about the history of their land. The name of the subdivision came from its developer, but our properties evolved from several mountain ranches that date back for more than a century. The land was first surveyed in 1861, at the time of the creation of Colorado Territory. Gold attracted the early prospectors, and our nearby communities of Jamestown and Ward were, and still are, criss-crossed by historic mining claims. Your Home in the High Country
When the Bar-K was originally developed by Wallis Kinney, it was promoted as a wonderful place in the mountains. The original Bar-K Ranch Brochure billed it as "The Finest in Carefree Living." The Old Wagon Road
Little do we know when hiking behind Rock Lake, we mirror the footsteps and wagon wheels that passed from Jamestown to Ward. The trail passes by what is now the Gates Camp and connects with CR 100, through Chipmunk Gulch and on to Ward.
